Stephani Shivers has a diverse background in clinical practice, consulting, teaching, program development, and non-profit leadership. Her 25+ years of combined experience includes cross-sector work in higher education, healthcare, non-profit, disability and community service organizations throughout the US and internationally. Grounded in lifelong interests in disability rights and universal design with a lens focused on aging in place, Stephani leads LiveWell’s operations and development of new opportunities and services for people living with dementia at home, along with their families, and partners in life, and lead community based ‘dementia friendly’ initiatives as the state lead of the Dementia Friendly America network and Dementia Friends Connecticut. Since coming to LiveWell, she has been awarded $1.7M dollars in private and federal grants to develop and implement a range of new evidence-based/informed programs and services to address the gaps in services for people living with dementia at home. Stephani currently serves as the Project Lead on an Alzheimer’s Disease Program Initiative through the Administration on Community Living, and Project Co-Lead on a PCORI Eugene Washington Engagement Award. Drawing on her clinical expertise as an occupational therapist specializing in cognitive development, function, and change, Stephani is passionate in her work with people living with dementia and their partners in life and care. Her forte lies in promoting agency, autonomy and independence by maximizing people’s preserved abilities and coaching ways to promote well-being. Stephani is co-founder of the Dementia Peer Coalition (www.dpc-ct.org) – an emerging organization comprised of change leaders living with dementia engaged in peer support, advocacy, community education and volunteerism. She developed one of the first occupational therapy based programs in the country specifically designed for people living at home with Alzheimer’s and other dementias. Stephani is a 2017 graduate of the LeadingAge National Leadership Academy, a certified Dementia Care Practitioner, Eden at Home Associate, and Skills2Care© clinician.
